CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Cambridge, Massachusetts, has been named the top city for young and wealthy Americans, according to a recent report by Travel + Leisure. The city, known for its vibrant tech scene and proximity to Harvard University, boasts a high cost of living and a population dominated by young professionals.

With a cost of living 70% higher than the national average, Cambridge is not for the faint of wallet. The median rent in the city is $3,200, and the average home price exceeds $1 million. Despite these steep costs, over 63% of households earn more than $150,000 annually, making it a hub for affluent residents.

Cambridge’s appeal lies in its unique blend of opportunities and amenities. Approximately 40% of its population is between the ages of 25 and 44, drawn by the city’s thriving tech and software industries, stunning views, and easy access to nightlife via the MBTA‘s subway system, known as the “T.”

“Cambridge offers an unparalleled mix of career opportunities, cultural experiences, and a youthful energy that’s hard to find elsewhere,” said a spokesperson for Travel + Leisure. The city’s proximity to Boston and its reputation as a center for innovation further solidify its status as a top destination for young professionals.

While Cambridge shines as a haven for the wealthy, other New England states like New Hampshire and Maine cater to different demographics. These states are often preferred by blue-collar families, adventure seekers, and those seeking a more affordable lifestyle.

As the cost of living continues to rise in urban centers like Cambridge, the debate over affordability and accessibility in America’s most desirable cities remains a pressing issue.
