Cameron Young Adjusts as U.S. Open Championship Awaits

Oakmont, Pennsylvania — Cameron Young is making strides in the 2025 U.S. Open, despite a rocky start to the tournament. After a disappointing round on Friday, Young showcased improvement on Saturday, significantly altering his approach to the challenging Oakmont Country Club.
Young began the tournament in promising fashion, birdieing his first hole. However, his performance on Friday—scoring a 74—had him worried about making the cut. He faced high expectations due to his successful recent outings. On Saturday, playing alongside world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, Young found a new rhythm. He led the field in Strokes Gained: Approach, hitting 17 of 18 greens in regulation.
“I’ve made some simple changes focusing on alignment,” Young said after his round. “It seems to be working, but it’s frustrating when the putter goes cold.” Despite his excellent iron play, he struggled on the greens, facing missed opportunities including a 10-footer on the par-3 13th hole.
As he heads into the final round on Sunday tied for ninth, Young is seven shots behind the leader. “I think it’s a missed opportunity for true contention,” he reflected post-round. Yet, he remains hopeful as he prepares for the upcoming Travelers Championship, a site where he has previously excelled. “I believe my first PGA Tour win is just around the corner,” he added.
With a solid base to build on from his iron play, Young looks forward to the remaining rounds of the tournament. The U.S. Open may have presented challenges, but it has also illuminated valuable strategies for his game.
