Cameroon Vs Libya World Cup Qualifying Match

YAOUNDE, Cameroon — Cameroon will host Libya in a critical match for World Cup qualification on March 25, 2025, at Stade Omnisport Ahmadou Ahidjo, as both teams vie for a higher standing in the CAF 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The clash is vital for Cameroon, currently sitting second in Group D with nine points, just one ahead of Libya, which holds third place with eight points after five matches. With the group leaders, Cape Verde, three points ahead, a win is essential for Cameroon to reclaim its top position.

Cameroon’s path to the World Cup has been challenging; a disappointing 0-0 draw against Eswatini last weekend added pressure. Despite dominating that match, Cameroon’s inability to score illustrated their struggles in front of goal. Coach Marc Brys will emphasize an aggressive start to the match, as his team has previously won their home games after scoring first in the qualifying series.

In contrast, Libya’s recent form has also been inconsistent. Under new management, Libya managed a 1-1 draw against Angola in their last outing, which did not help their pursuit of points. After leading in that match, they conceded a late equalizer, which left them with three draws this qualifying campaign.

“We need to be more clinical in front of goal. It’s going to be a tough match, and we should capitalize on any chances we get,” stated Brys in anticipation of the conflict.

Cameroon’s squad boasts quality players, including Vincent Aboubakar, who is just one goal shy of breaking into the all-time top three scorers for the national team. Their attacking depth will be crucial against Libya’s defense, known for being compact and tough to break down.

For Wednesday’s game, Brys is expected to field an unchanged lineup, with Aboubakar leading the attack supported by players such as Mbeumo and Bassogog. Liverpool midfielder Zambo Anguissa has recovered from a muscle strain and is set to play a pivotal role in midfield.

Libya’s prospects are bolstered by their recent matches, with only one loss in five games. Coach has focused on tightening the defense in training, aiming to secure a vital three points on the road.

“Every match is a chance to improve. We believe we can get a result in Cameroon,” said Libya’s coach before the fixture.

As both teams prepare for a match filled with significance, the focus will be on execution and tactical discipline. Fans expect a tightly contested game, with Cameroon favored to edge it with a close scoreline, predicted to be 1-0.
