Canada‘s men’s basketball team is making its long-awaited return to the Olympics as they prepare to face Greece in their opening match at the 2024 Paris Games. This is the first time the Canadian team is competing since the Sydney Olympics in 2000.

The game is set to take place at Pierre Mauroy Stadium at 3 p.m. ET on Saturday. Fans are eager to watch their team compete against the likes of NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo, who leads the Greek squad.

In a previous Olympic performance in 2000, the Canadian team reached a pivotal moment that left star player Steve Nash emotional. Flash forward to today, Canada is looking to break an 88-year medal drought in men’s basketball, with their last podium finish dating back to 1936.

In their recent outings, Canada earned a bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup, fueling hope and enthusiasm among fans. Greece, on the other hand, is making its return to Olympic basketball since 2008 and has proven itself by winning a FIBA qualifying tournament earlier this month.

The match is ramping up excitement as Canada enters the tournament with strong players like Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who had a stellar season with the Oklahoma City Thunder. He averaged over 30 points a game, and along with teammates like Jamal Murray and RJ Barrett, they aim to make a significant impact.

As both teams faced off in the group stage, Canada is a 7.5-point favorite in the matchup. Meanwhile, Greece will rely heavily on the skills of Antetokounmpo, who consistently showcases top talent in the NBA.

Australia and Germany also opened their campaigns on the same day, with France emerging victorious against Brazil, creating a competitive atmosphere in the tournament.
