Canada Scores Big in T20 World Cup 2024 Opener Against US
Navneet Dhaliwal and Nicholas Kirton’s impressive batting display paved the way for Canada to score a formidable 194/5 against the US in the inaugural match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.
Winning the toss, the US chose to field first, but Canada’s strong batting lineup proved challenging for their opponents.
Opening pair Aaron Johnson and Navneet Dhaliwal set the tone with a solid 43-run partnership.
The American bowler Harmeet Singh made an early breakthrough by dismissing Johnson, while Pargat Singh’s innings ended short due to a runout by Jessy Singh and Monank Patel.
Nicholas Kirton’s valuable knock in the middle overs, accompanied by Dhaliwal’s aggressive batting, helped Canada post a formidable total.
After Dhaliwal’s dismissal by Corey Anderson, Kirton took charge, but his wicket fell to Ali Khan in the 18th over, putting a slight dent in Canada’s momentum.
In the death overs, Shreyas Movva and Dilpreet Singh’s explosive hitting further boosted Canada’s score to 194/5.
Despite efforts from the US bowlers, including Corey Anderson, Harmeet Singh, and Ali Khan, Canada’s steady run rate and aggressive strokeplay posed a challenge throughout the match.
In the head-to-head records between the USA and Canada, the US currently leads with five victories out of the eight matches played.
The USA vs Canada match will be broadcast live on Star Sports Network, with Disney plus Hotstar providing the live streaming services for the ICC T20 World Cup 2024.
