In an exciting turn of events, Canada has secured its best result ever in women’s rugby sevens by surprising Australia with a 21-12 victory in the semifinals.

This thrilling win took place on Day 4 of the tournament, following Canada’s successful match against France in the quarterfinals. Now, the team is set to face New Zealand in the gold medal match at 7:45 PM local time.

One of the standout players for Canada, Charity Williams, shared her joy about the achievement, saying, “It’s hard to describe. It’s finally coming to reality. It’s all happening. I am just so proud of this group.”

Australia, a strong team, started the game intensely, scoring two tries in quick succession. But just before halftime, Williams made a fantastic play, breaking through the defense and scoring, bringing Canada closer with a score of 12-7.

Feeling the momentum shift in their favor, Canada entered the second half with renewed energy. Asia Hogan-Rochester scored a try just two minutes after the break, and with a successful conversion by captain, Canada took a 14-12 lead.

In the closing minutes of the match, Canada managed to regain possession after an Australian mistake, leading to another try by Piper Logan. This sealed the match at 21-12, ending Australia’s hopes for gold.

In other matches, the United States competed against New Zealand, where their efforts fell short at 24-12, sending them to the bronze medal match against Australia.

Meanwhile, France bounced back from their loss to Canada by beating Ireland 19-7 and will play China for fifth place. Great Britain also faced disappointment, losing to China in a dramatic finish with a score of 19-15.

The tournament has shown plenty of excitement and unexpected turns, making for a memorable experience as teams vie for Olympic glory.
