Canadian Nick Taylor Ties Tournament Record at WM Phoenix Open Amid Weather Interruptions
Canadian golfer Nick Taylor made a memorable mark at the WM Phoenix Open, tying the tournament record amidst challenging weather conditions at TPC Scottsdale.
Following a two-day effort to complete his first round, Taylor dazzled spectators by carding an impressive 11-under 60, placing him at the top of the leaderboard.
Taylor’s feat was particularly noteworthy due to the adverse weather conditions that plagued the event, including torrential rain that forced a pause in play on Thursday at 12:32 p.m. ET.
Resuming play at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, Taylor’s tee time was pushed back, setting the stage for a remarkable performance that unfolded over a span of 20 hours – culminating in his record-tying round.
Despite facing challenges, Taylor displayed remarkable consistency and skill, starting his second round just 40 minutes after completing his record-setting first round.
As Taylor’s first round carried into the following day due to a frost delay, he seamlessly transitioned back into play on Friday morning, showcasing his prowess with seven additional birdies to solidify his position on top of the leaderboard.
Notably, Taylor’s stellar performance was not the only standout display at the WM Phoenix Open, as fellow golfers Taylor Pendrith, Michael Gligic, Roger Sloan, Adam Hadwin, and Sahith Theegala also turned heads with impressive first-round scores, further highlighting the competitive nature of the event.
