Canelo Alvarez to Fight Unbeaten William Scull in Saudi Arabia

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, one of boxing’s top athletes, is set to face unbeaten challenger William Scull on Saturday, May 3, as part of a highly anticipated bout to crown the undisputed super middleweight champion of the world. This match will mark Alvarez’s first fight in Saudi Arabia, following a deal with Riyadh Season.
The fight card will commence at 10:00 PM GMT at the ANB Arena, with ring walks for the main event expected to start around 3:00 AM GMT on Sunday. Fans can watch the match live on DAZN pay-per-view, which features a strong undercard, including a rematch between Bruno Surace and Jaime Munguia.
Although the official fight purse has not been disclosed, Alvarez is anticipated to earn roughly $80 million, according to Marca, a Spanish sports newspaper. The 34-year-old boxer from Guadalajara, Mexico, began his professional career in 2010 and is currently ranked as the world’s top super middleweight.
Alvarez will defend his WBA, WBC, and WBO titles against Scull, who became the IBF champion after Alvarez vacated the title in favor of another fight last year. The 32-year-old Scull, born in Matanzas, Cuba, is known for his 73-inch reach and has remained unbeaten since turning professional at age 24.
In the lead-up to the fight, Alvarez expressed his motivation to compete in a new country, stating, “This fight is very important to me. I never take anything easy.” Scull has issued his own challenge, saying, “I’m going to eat him. I’m here to win and that’s it.”
The fight promises to unify the super middleweight titles and is crucial for both fighters as Alvarez seeks to regain a title he relinquished and Scull aims to make a name for himself on the world stage.
