Vancouver Canucks Vs Columbus Blue Jackets Game Action

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Vancouver Canucks are set to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight at 7 p.m. ET at Nationwide Arena, with both teams vying for crucial points in the playoff race.

Currently, the Canucks stand at 34-26-12 with 80 points, occupying the fourth spot in the Pacific Division. Meanwhile, the Blue Jackets, at 32-29-9, are positioned sixth in the Metropolitan Division, with 73 points. Tonight’s matchup presents a pivotal opportunity for both squads, as they navigate the Eastern and Western Conference playoff landscapes.

The Canucks are coming off a recent victory, having won two of their past three games, with their most recent win against the New York Islanders, where they secured a 5-2 win. In contrast, the Blue Jackets have enjoyed practice time on their home ice after a slight decline in recent outings. With a busy playoff picture ahead, the stakes are high as they sit just two points behind the final wild card position.

Tonight’s game will see the return of Cole Sillinger to the Blue Jackets lineup after an upper-body injury kept him sidelined for 11 games. Sillinger was activated from Injured Reserve earlier today and will play left wing, joining a reshuffled offensive line alongside Justin Danforth and Mathieu Olivier.

“It feels good to be back,” Sillinger said during a media availability. “I’m just looking forward to helping the team in this important stretch.”

On the opposite bench, the Canucks will be without key players Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander due to injuries. However, defenseman Quinn Hughes, who has been pivotal for the team’s success, has returned from injury and will look to lead the defense against Columbus’s offense.

“Quinn’s presence on the ice is invaluable,” Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet said. “His vision and playmaking ability really elevate our game.”

Both teams are also dealing with lineup changes. Vancouver has scratched Victor Mancini, Arturs Silovs, and Max Sasson, while Columbus will miss James van Riemsdyk, who has struggled with performance as of late.

Scoring statistics illustrate the close matchup, with Vancouver averaging 2.82 goals per game ranked 22nd in the NHL, while the Blue Jackets have a slightly better average at 3.14, positioned 12th. Defensively, both teams are on different paths; the Canucks have shown inconsistency with a 3.03 goals against average, placing 19th, in contrast to Columbus who ranks 26th allowing 3.31 goals.

As the game approaches, the tension will certainly build not only for a much-needed win but for playoff positioning as both teams look to gain any advantage leading into the final stretch of the season.

“Every point is crucial at this stage,” said Blue Jackets coach Brad Shaw. “We need to make sure we capitalize on every opportunity.”
