Cao Yuan Dominates Men's 10m Platform Diving At Paris 2024

In an exciting showdown at the Paris 2024 Olympics, defending champion Cao Yuan took home the gold medal in the men’s 10m platform diving event. His impressive score of 547.50 helped him achieve a remarkable feat, marking an unprecedented clean sweep of Olympic gold medals for the People's Republic of China in diving.

Japanese diver Tamai Rikuto came in a close second, earning a silver medal with a score of 507.65. This marked Japan‘s first-ever medal in this diving discipline, making it a historic moment for their team.

Team GB‘s Noah Williams secured the bronze with a score of 497.35, adding to his country’s success at these games. Earlier, he had also claimed a silver in the synchronized diving event.

Cao, who is now a four-time Olympic gold medallist, wowed the crowd with his third dive, scoring an incredible 97.20 for a back 3.5 somersault. His consistency paid off, as he nailed his dives, leading him to victory.

While Tamai scored even higher with his final dive, a back 2½ somersault with twists, earning him 99 points, a previous stumble on a reverse dive held him back. Meanwhile, Williams had a bit of a slip during his third dive but recovered well with two scores above 90 on his closing dives, cementing his spot on the podium.

China’s other top diver, and reigning world champion, did not have his best day, finishing in 12th place. The pressure was palpable, especially after the earlier successes of the Chinese team.

Finally, the diving events at these Olympics concluded with China making history, while Team GB finished strong with one silver and four bronze medals. Cao Yuan’s achievement is particularly notable as he has now become the first diver since Greg Louganis at the 1988 Seoul Olympics to successfully defend his gold medal in this event.
