Capan and Knapp Aim for PGA Win in New Orleans

Avondale, Louisiana – Rookie golfer David Capan turned his struggling season around this weekend at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, showcasing a strong performance in partnership with Jake Knapp.
The duo recorded an impressive 12-under round of 60 during Saturday’s third round, bringing their total score to 24-under for the tournament. This performance puts them just three shots behind leaders Andrew Novak and Ben Griffin, who are set to tee off at 12:55 p.m. Central Time on Sunday.
Capan, who has missed six consecutive cuts entering this week, found that the team format at TPC Louisiana provided the spark he desperately needed. “We birdied a lot of opposite holes, so that helped a lot,” he said. “I felt like we did a really good job of just kind of taking care of our own games and making a few putts out there.”
This marks Capan’s first time in contention for a PGA Tour event win. The FedEx Cup points at stake are significant, and even if they maintain their current position, he would rise from 149th to 95th in the season-long standings. A victory, however, would gain him a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour and a spot in the next month’s PGA Championship.
Saturday’s round was a welcome improvement for the 25-year-old North Oaks native, who had previously struggled with his driver. Capan expressed confidence in his game, saying, “It’s just a matter of getting more experience.” His partner Knapp, a recent PGA Tour winner, has been instrumental in Capan’s progress. “Having Jake by my side has been great,” Capan noted.
As they prepare for Sunday’s alternate shot format, Capan remains focused and ready for the challenge ahead.
