Capitals Aim to Break Losing Streak Against Sabres

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Washington Capitals will host the Buffalo Sabres on March 30, 2025, at Capital One Arena, looking to snap a two-game losing streak. After a recent road trip that included losses to the Minnesota Wild and the Winnipeg Jets, the Capitals aim to regain momentum as they enter the final stretch of the NHL season.
The Capitals, currently sitting at 47-16-9, face the Sabres, who come in with a record of 30-36-6. This matchup marks the conclusion of the March portion of the schedule for both teams and the start of a busy April for Washington, which features ten games in just 18 days.
After dropping a 4-2 decision to the Wild on Thursday, the Capitals are eager to avoid their first three-game losing streak of the season. Coach Spencer Carbery noted the need for improved starts, stating, “We go down 1-0 in both those games, early. Not ideal.” The Capitals currently hold a six-game home winning streak and are eager to build on it against the struggling Sabres.
Buffalo is coming off a lopsided 7-4 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers but had previously won three straight games, scoring 15 goals in that span. The Sabres have historically performed well against Washington, scoring four or more goals in six of their last eight encounters, including a 4-3 overtime victory during their last meeting on January 6.
Washington’s Alex Ovechkin is also a focal point of the game as he is just six goals shy of breaking Wayne Gretzky’s all-time goals record. Craig Laughlin, the Capitals’ long-time color commentator, will make his return to the broadcast booth after undergoing heart surgery. Laughlin expressed his excitement, stating, “I feel fantastic… I can’t wait to get back in the booth.”
As the Capitals look to rectify their recent performances, players emphasized the importance of starting strong. “It’s tough to come back in those games,” Carbery noted, highlighting the team’s need to establish an early lead. Buffalo will be aiming to capitalize on any slow starts by the Capitals, hoping to build on their offensive capabilities.
The game is set for 3:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on MNMT and Caps Radio 24/7. As the playoff picture becomes clearer, both teams aim to establish momentum at this crucial point in the season.
