Carlos Alcaraz Advances To Fourth Round At Australian Open

Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz is through to the fourth round of the Australian Open after defeating Chinese wildcard Shang Juncheng, who was forced to retire. Alcaraz, who is ranked second in the world, played an impressive match and led 6-1, 6-1, 1-0 when Shang retired due to injury. This marks Alcaraz’s first time advancing to the fourth round at Melbourne Park.

The 20-year-old Spaniard will now face Serbian player Miomir Kecmanović in the next round. Despite being ranked 60th in the world, Kecmanović has proven himself as a formidable opponent. He gave Alcaraz a tough match in the 2022 Miami Masters quarterfinals, where Alcaraz emerged as the winner. Alcaraz recalls their match and expects another challenging encounter in Melbourne.

Alcaraz has been in great form throughout the Australian Open, having dropped only one set so far. He rates his current performance as a seven or eight out of ten and believes he is improving with every match. His goal is to maintain his high level of play and advance further in the tournament.

In other matches, Polish ninth seed Hubert Hurkacz defeated French 21st seed Ugo Humbert in four sets. Hurkacz faced a tough challenge after losing the first set but managed to turn the match around. He will now face wildcard Arthur Cazaux in the next round, who has been performing exceptionally well in Melbourne.

The Australian Open continues to showcase thrilling matches and potential matchups, with players like Daniil Medvedev, Alexander Zverev, and Felix Auger-Aliassime still in contention. Tennis fans can catch all the action live on Nine, 9Gem, or on the Wide World of Sports website.
