Carlos Alcaraz Prepares for Grass Season at Queen’s

London, England – Carlos Alcaraz is set to begin his grass court season at the Queen's Club on Tuesday, facing Australian Adam Walton, who is replacing Alejandro Davidovich due to injury.
Alcaraz’s coach, Samuel López, expressed confidence ahead of the match. “We have arrived with little time, but with ambition and enthusiasm. Carlos enjoys playing on this surface,” he said. López noted that Alcaraz is coming off of a successful run on clay, winning titles in Monte Carlo, Rome, and Roland Garros.
Transitioning from clay to grass presents challenges. López commented, “Gaining confidence in Paris adds pressure. We see this as an adaptation. The more matches we win here, the better.” With expectations high, López acknowledges the difficulty of switching surfaces after an extensive clay season.
Alcaraz’s history at Queen’s is mixed. He won the tournament in 2023 but faced an early exit in 2024 against Jack Draper. “The first year was surprising. After saving a match point, we won the title. Last year, the early loss was disappointing, but we learned from the experience,” López reflected.
Alcaraz also missed the wedding of his rival Davidovich, who tied the knot with fashion designer Paloma Amatiste in Marbella over the weekend. While Alcaraz was training in London, he and Davidovich are now set to potentially face each other as the tournament unfolds.
As he prepares for Queen’s, Alcaraz completed his third grass training session on Monday, practicing against Czech player Jiri Lehecka, who is also competing in the tournament. During the session, they played until a 5-5 stalemate before being interrupted.
Meanwhile, Davidovich begins his grass training this week as well, having narrowly missed Queen’s last year due to an injury. With Wimbledon looming on June 30, both players aim to gain momentum, as they prepare for the historic tournament where singles champions will receive increased prize money.
