Carlos Rodón Pitching For Yankees

NEW YORK, N.Y. — Carlos Rodón, a notable MLB pitcher, struggled in his first season with the New York Yankees. After strong performances in previous seasons with the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants, many expected more from him in 2023. Unfortunately, things didn’t start well for the lefty.

Rodón, who signed a significant contract with the Yankees, faced difficulties as his earned run average (ERA) and walks plus hits per inning pitched (WHIP) rose sharply. Injuries plagued him at both the start and end of the season, leading to a disappointing record of 3-8.

In a recent interview on The Show Podcast with Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman, Rodón opened up about the mental challenges he faced. “It was rough. Long drives home, a lot of time in my head, thinking about what’s wrong, why can’t I make this better,” he said. “I wish I was better at the time. But I wasn’t.”

After reflecting deeply on his performance, Rodón recognized the need for change. He decided to expand his pitch repertoire, adding a curveball, sinker, and changeup to his usual fastball and slider. This adjustment, particularly for a veteran player, illustrated his perseverance.

“I don’t give up. I never really have. It’s just not in my nature,” Rodón stated. This determination has already led to positive results. In the current season, he is performing strongly with a record of 7-3, a 2.60 ERA, and the fewest hits allowed per nine innings in the American League.

Thanks to Rodón’s contributions, the Yankees are sitting atop the AL East standings. However, the pitcher is focused on the team’s ultimate goal: returning to the World Series. “I think we have a better team this year,” Rodón expressed. “Obviously, we still have to get there. So there’s still games to be won.”
