Caroline Wozniacki Makes Winning Start At Australian Open Comeback

Caroline Wozniacki, the former world number one and 2018 Australian Open champion, has kicked off her return to the Australian Open with a victorious first-round match. After retiring from professional tennis in 2020, Wozniacki started a family with her husband, former NBA player David Lee. She gave birth to her daughter Olivia in 2021 and son James in 2022. Last year, she announced her return to the WTA Tour and is now making her comeback at the Australian Open.

Wozniacki’s first-round opponent was the Polish player Magda Linette, who reached the semifinals at Melbourne Park last year. However, Linette was forced to retire in the second set due to injury, with Wozniacki leading 6-2, 2-0 at the time. With this win, Wozniacki advances to the second round of the tournament.

Speaking about her comeback, Wozniacki stated that she feels more comfortable now and has a better understanding of where she stands in her tennis career. She expressed that she has nothing to lose and everything to win in this phase of her comeback. Currently ranked 252 on the WTA rankings, Wozniacki needed a wildcard to enter the Australian Open main draw.

While regaining her form and conditioning, Wozniacki emphasized the importance of taking care of her body and being diligent in her preparation. Now more aware of her physical limitations, she aims to be smarter in managing her body and avoiding overexertion. Wozniacki believes that this approach will benefit her as she progresses in the tournament.

Next, Wozniacki will face qualifier Maria Timofeeva in the second round.
