Carson Palmquist Coors Field Debut

DENVER, Colo. – Carson Palmquist will make his first start at Coors Field tonight as the Colorado Rockies face the Philadelphia Phillies in the third game of a four-game series.

After a challenging Major League debut where he allowed five runs on six hits in an 8-0 loss to Arizona, Palmquist looks to improve his performance. The Rockies (8-40) host the Phillies (30-18) at 6:40 p.m. MT.

Palmquist, who was called up to the Rockies on May 16, posted a solid 3.82 ERA and a 2-2 record in seven Minor League starts, with 45 strikeouts in 35 1/3 innings. Despite this strong background, he has yet to record his first Major League strikeout.

This matchup comes after the Rockies lost the first two games of the series against the Phillies, with scores of 9-3 and 7-4. In five games against Philadelphia this season, the Rockies have been outscored 30-10, having suffered a previous sweep in early April.

Starting for the Phillies is Taijuan Walker, who has a record of 1-3 and a 2.62 ERA this season. The veteran right-hander has tallied 31 strikeouts in 34 1/3 innings over eight starts. His best performance this season occurred on April 3, where he delivered six scoreless innings against the Rockies, helping lead his team to a 3-1 victory.

Additionally, today marks the 26th birthday of Rockies infielder Tyler Freeman from Rancho Cucamonga, California. After a strong performance on Tuesday where he went 3-for-4, Freeman is not in the starting lineup for tonight’s game.
