EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Carter Hart, formerly of the Philadelphia Flyers, has joined the Vegas Golden Knights as he works to revitalize his NHL career. The Golden Knights announced his signing on Thursday, marking a significant step for the goaltender following a challenging period away from the ice.

Hart, 27, was recently found not guilty of sexual assault charges stemming from an incident involving members of Canada‘s 2018 World Junior team. He has not played an NHL game in 20 months but expressed excitement about returning to the game he loves.

“It’s been a long road to get back to this point, and to get back to playing the game of hockey,” Hart said during his first public appearance in Las Vegas. “I’ve learned a lot, I’ve grown a lot, and I’m just excited to move forward.”

Hart will begin practicing with the Golden Knights under a professional tryout agreement, which is expected to lead to a full NHL contract. He can practice immediately but will not be eligible to compete in NHL games until December 1. In the meantime, he can participate in conditioning games in the American Hockey League starting November 15.

Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy mentioned Hart’s need for work and emphasized the importance of reintegrating him into the team environment. “He hasn’t played in a while. He needs some work,” Cassidy said.

Golden Knights captain Mark Stone welcomed Hart to the team, emphasizing the organization’s commitment to supporting him. “We’re happy to have him here and incorporate him into our family,” Stone stated.

Hart, a former second-round draft pick in 2016, has played 227 NHL games to date, accumulating a record of 96 wins, 93 losses, and 29 overtime losses.

As he embarks on this new chapter with the Golden Knights, Hart looks forward to showcasing his character and involvement in the community.
