Cavaliers Dominate Timberwolves 124-117, Extend League-Best Record to 35-6
MINNEAPOLIS — Donovan Mitchell led the Cleveland Cavaliers to a decisive 124-117 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Saturday night, redeeming himself after a quiet performance earlier in the week. The Cavaliers, now 35-6, remain the NBA’s top team at the halfway point of the season.
The game turned in Cleveland’s favor during a pivotal 18-0 run bridging the third and fourth quarters. Mitchell, who struggled in the Cavaliers’ previous outing, scored 36 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter, to seal the win. “We stayed composed and executed when it mattered,” Mitchell said after the game. “This team knows how to respond.”
The Timberwolves, who fell to 22-20, were led by Anthony Edwards‘ 29 points, but their defense faltered during Cleveland’s decisive run. “We let them get too comfortable,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch admitted. “Against a team like that, you can’t afford lapses.”
Cleveland’s victory capped a successful road trip, further solidifying their status as the league’s most consistent team. They have lost back-to-back games only once this season. The Cavaliers’ next challenge comes Tuesday against the Milwaukee Bucks, while the Timberwolves host the Chicago Bulls on Monday.
