Cavinder Twins Express Concern as California Wildfires Prompt State of Emergency
Miami Hurricanes basketball stars Haley and Hanna Cavinder expressed their concern for California as wildfires ravaged Los Angeles, prompting a state of emergency. The twins, known for their active social media presence, shared their thoughts on Instagram, sending prayers to Californians and firefighters battling the blazes.
According to ABC News, at least five people have died in the wildfires, with the LA County sheriff warning that the death toll could rise. The largest fire, in Pacific Palisades, has burned over 17,000 acres and destroyed thousands of structures. Outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden approved a federal major disaster declaration for the county on Wednesday.
“Praying for all of California + firefighters right now during this devastating time,” the Cavinder twins wrote on their Instagram story. They reshared a post from LA City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson, who announced the state of emergency on Tuesday.
While the Cavinder twins and the nation monitor the tragic events in California, the sisters continue to focus on their basketball careers with the Miami Hurricanes. The team, currently holding an 11-4 record, is on a three-game losing streak in conference play. Haley leads the team with 17.9 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game, while Hanna averages 7.7 points, 3.9 assists, and 2.8 rebounds.
The Hurricanes are preparing for their next game against Syracuse at the JMA Wireless Dome in New York on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. ET, aiming to break their losing streak and return to the win column.
