Cleveland Cavaliers Evan Mobley Chicago Bulls Game

CHICAGO — The Cleveland Cavaliers will be without All-Star forward Evan Mobley when they face the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday night due to a planned rest day. This marks Mobley’s seventh absence of the season as the Cavaliers look to maintain their dominance while navigating a demanding March schedule.

The Cavaliers (50-10) are on a ten-game winning streak, currently holding a commanding seven-and-a-half game lead over the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference. Tuesday’s matchup serves as the first game of a back-to-back series, with Cleveland set to host the Miami Heat on Wednesday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.

Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson reaffirmed the importance of strategic resting, especially during March, a month that promises 16 games in just 30 days. “We have to be strategic in what we’re doing,” Atkinson said, referring to the challenges presented by this packed schedule. Mobley, averaging 18.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 3.1 assists, is being rested to prevent overexertion as the playoffs approach.

Mobley is a strong candidate for the Defensive Player of the Year award and could also make the All-NBA team this season. However, under league rules, he is limited to ten more absences to remain eligible for end-of-season accolades.

The Bulls (24-37) are entering the game dealing with their own injury issues. Starting center Nikola Vucevic is sidelined, along with several others, leaving them vulnerable against a well-rounded Cavaliers team. Despite the challenges, the Bulls will be aiming for any chance to upset Cleveland at home.

The Cavaliers are not currently dealing with any injuries apart from Mobley, which allows them the flexibility to manage players’ minutes effectively. This approach follows similar moves made with star guard Donovan Mitchell, who was rested on Sunday, underscoring Atkinson’s proactive strategy in maintaining player health.

The game will be broadcast live on CHSN and FDSOH, and fans can stream it on Fubo, though regional restrictions may apply. Both teams will be looking for a significant boost from their key players, with Donovan Mitchell, who averages 24.8 points per game, leading the charge for the Cavaliers.
