Kieran Tierney Celtic Arsenal St Mirren Match

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers expressed his displeasure after fans chanted Kieran Tierney‘s name during Sunday’s 3-0 victory over St Mirren. The Scotland international, who left Celtic for Arsenal in 2019, is rumored to be considering a return to Parkhead. Rodgers called the chants disrespectful to current left-back Greg Taylor, who has been a consistent performer for the club.

“There was a few things that I may have overheard at the end there. That’s a total lack of respect. Of course there is,” Rodgers said. “Greg Taylor, he’s been absolutely amazing at this club. How does he feel? He nearly breaks his nose, bleeding for the club, for a cause. It’s not very respectful.”

Tierney, 27, has struggled with injuries since moving to Arsenal, limiting his playing time. Despite his challenges in England, he remains a fan favorite at Celtic, where he won four Scottish Premiership titles and numerous cup trophies. However, Rodgers emphasized the importance of respecting Taylor, who has been a reliable presence in the squad.

Taylor, who joined Celtic from Kilmarnock in 2019, has been a key player under multiple managers, including Rodgers and Ange Postecoglou. His adaptability and consistency have made him a vital part of the team, earning him a leadership role alongside players like Callum McGregor and Cameron Carter-Vickers.

While Tierney’s potential return to Celtic is a tantalizing prospect for fans, Rodgers remains focused on the current squad. “There’s lots of speculation, lots of names, but I wouldn’t add anything to it,” he said. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta also addressed Tierney’s future, stating, “All the players that are here, they want to focus on performing and impacting the team, and if something happens there, then we will assess it.”

As Celtic continues to dominate the Scottish Premiership, the club faces a delicate balancing act between honoring past heroes and supporting current players. Taylor’s contributions have not gone unnoticed, and Rodgers is determined to ensure his efforts are respected by the fans.
