BOSTON, Mass. — Boston Celtics guard JD Davison has been selected to participate in the NBA Rising Stars Challenge during All-Star Weekend in San Francisco, joining a roster of top young talent. The 22-year-old, who has spent most of the season with the Maine Celtics in the G League, will showcase his skills alongside rising stars like Victor Wembanyama and Dalton Knecht on Feb. 14.

Davison, a second-round pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, has been a standout in the G League this season, averaging 26.5 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 8.3 assists per game. Despite his impressive performance, he has yet to secure a consistent role with the Celtics, appearing in only 25 NBA games over three seasons.

“JD has shown tremendous growth and potential in the G League,” said a Celtics spokesperson. “This recognition is well-deserved, and we’re excited to see him compete on a bigger stage.”

The Celtics, meanwhile, are navigating a challenging stretch in their season. With a 3-9 record in games following a win since Dec. 18, the team has struggled to maintain consistency. Their recent 47-game performance has raised concerns about their ability to defend last season’s championship success.

As the trade deadline approaches, speculation surrounds potential roster moves. Jaden Springer, a seldom-used bench player, has been mentioned as a possible trade candidate to free up salary cap space. This could open the door for Davison to earn more NBA minutes, though his limited experience at the highest level makes such a promotion uncertain.

Davison’s inclusion in the Rising Stars Challenge highlights his potential, but his future with the Celtics remains unclear. For now, the young guard is focused on making the most of his All-Star Weekend opportunity.
