Boston Celtics Orlando Magic Nba Playoffs Game 1

BOSTON, MA — The Boston Celtics defeated the Orlando Magic 103-86 on Sunday afternoon in Game 1 of their first-round playoff series. The victory puts Boston ahead in the best-of-seven matchup as they aim for a strong playoff run.

2024 NBA Finals MVP Jaylen Brown contributed to the team’s success, scoring 16 points, grabbing five rebounds, and providing two assists and two steals in 30 minutes of play. He shot 6 of 14 from the field despite dealing with a knee issue.

Jayson Tatum also played a crucial role, finishing the game with 17 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, and one block. He spoke highly of Brown’s effort following the win, stating, “He knows that we need him out there, and we understand that he’s fighting through and trying to give it his all. We appreciate that… He did his part tonight and contributed to us getting a win.”

Tatum faced a challenging night offensively, shooting 8 of 22 from the field, including just 1 of 8 from three-point range. The Celtics had a tough time with their shooting overall, highlighted by the trio of Tatum, Brown, and Kristaps Porzingis combining to make just 15 of 44 shots.

Derrick White led the Celtics with an impressive 30-point performance, shooting 10 of 18 from the floor, including 7 of 12 from three-point range. Payton Pritchard added 19 points off the bench, displaying the depth and balance of the Celtics roster.

Despite strong individual performances from Orlando’s Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, who scored 36 and 23 points respectively, the Magic could not overcome Boston’s defense and teamwork. No other Orlando player scored in double figures.

The Celtics are the second seed in the Eastern Conference, while the Magic are seventh. Game 2 of the series is scheduled for Tuesday night in Boston, where the Celtics will look to continue their momentum.
