Jayson Tatum Injury Celtics Knicks Game 4

BOSTON, MA — The Boston Celtics are facing elimination in the Eastern Conference semifinals after losing to the New York Knicks, 121-113, in Game 4 on Monday. Despite leading by as many as 14 points and holding the lead for much of the game, the Celtics fell behind in the fourth quarter.

Knicks star Jalen Brunson had a standout performance, scoring 39 points, including 18 points in the pivotal third quarter. However, the game took a difficult turn for the Celtics when forward Jayson Tatum went down with an apparent right leg injury in the game’s final minutes. He was unable to put any weight on his leg as he was helped off the court.

The loss places the Celtics in a 3-1 hole in the playoff series, with Game 5 scheduled for Wednesday night in Boston. The team must win to extend their season and defend their title.

In his post-game press conference, Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla did not provide further details on Tatum’s injury, stating that an MRI is scheduled for the following morning. The impact of losing Tatum, one of the league’s rising stars, could be devastating for the team’s chances of advancing in the playoffs.

Teammate Jaylen Brown expressed the collective shock and concern for Tatum’s well-being, noting, “It’s tough… there’s not really a lot to say.” Al Horford also emphasized the importance of Tatum’s health above all else.

The Celtics have been struggling with injuries throughout the playoffs. In addition to Tatum, Jrue Holiday is dealing with a hamstring strain, Jaylen Brown has a knee issue, and Kristaps Porzingis is battling an illness that may affect his performance.

As the team prepares for Game 5, the players understand the urgency of the situation. Kristaps Porzingis recognized Tatum’s significant role, stating, “There’s no replacement for this guy, no? This is a big hit for us.”

Game 5 will tip off at TD Garden on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and the Celtics will need to rally together to keep their playoff hopes alive without their star forward.
