Celtics Face Struggling Wizards in Key Matchup
BOSTON, Mass. — The Boston Celtics host the Washington Wizards Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m. at TD Garden, closing out a three-game homestand as they search for their first win of the stretch. The Celtics have lost their last two games, including a disappointing loss to the Utah Jazz.
In their last game, the Celtics shot just 21.6 percent from three-point range, making only 11 of 51 attempts. This poor shooting has contributed to their struggles, as they currently rank second-worst in the league in three-point shooting at 31.2 percent, ahead of only the Indiana Pacers.
The Wizards, with a 1-6 record, are also in dire straits. They have lost five consecutive games, including a 119-102 defeat to the New York Knicks on Monday. The team has allowed an average of 127 points per game this season, the second highest in the NBA.
Boston’s coach Joe Mazzulla addressed the team’s need for improvement, particularly in their second-half performances. Against Utah, Boston managed to build a 14-point lead in the first half but faltered in the third quarter, allowing the Jazz to score 38 points.
“Our first half was great, and I think the third quarter, they got the best of us,” Mazzulla said. “We need to find a way to put a full game together.”
Key players to watch include the Celtics’ Derrick White and Payton Pritchard, both of whom are struggling shooting from beyond the arc. White has averaged 26.3 percent, while Pritchard is at 21.3 percent.
On the Wizards’ side, Kyshawn George has emerged as their leading scorer, averaging 17.9 points per game. Center Alex Sarr contributes significantly as well with averages of 17.3 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists.
As Boston looks to bounce back, they will hope to leverage their home-court advantage against a struggling Wizards team. The tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on NBC Sports Boston.
