Celtics Face Tough Challenge as Kornet Sits for Personal Matters

BOSTON, Mass. — The Boston Celtics will be without center Luke Kornet for their game against the Toronto Raptors on February 25, 2025, due to personal matters. Kornet’s absence comes as the Celtics seek to secure their sixth consecutive win.
Kornet has played in 50 games this season, averaging 5.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. The Celtics announced his status as out on February 24, 2025, marking the end of his streak of 34 consecutive appearances.
“We have to step up our game,” said Celtics guard Derrick White, who scored 22 points in the game against Toronto. “We’ve got a lot of guys out, but everyone is ready to contribute.”
The Celtics were already facing roster challenges without Junior Holiday, who was resting, and Al Horford, who was listed as questionable with a toe injury. With Kornet sidelined, the frontcourt depth will rely heavily on Kristaps Porzingis and Neemias Queta. “Every player has to embrace their role, especially when key players are out,” said Celtics coach Joe Mazzulla.
The Celtics defeated the Raptors 111-101 in their most recent meeting, with White playing a crucial role. Jaylen Brown scored a game-high 24 points while Payton Pritchard added 20 points off the bench. This victory marked nine wins in their last ten games, displaying their resilience amid injuries.
The Celtics will face the Detroit Pistons next, where they hope to extend their winning streak despite ongoing personnel challenges. “It’s all about staying focused and taking one game at a time,” added Mazzulla.
Meanwhile, the Raptors will miss Brandon Ingram, their recent trade acquisition, who is sidelined with an ankle sprain, further shifting the dynamics of the matchup.
The Celtics tip-off against the Pistons is scheduled for 7 p.m. on February 26, 2025, and fans hope for continued success despite the shorthanded lineup.
