BOSTON, MA — As the regular season draws to a close, the Boston Celtics are focusing on the playoffs after securing the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference. The team reached the 60-win mark for the second consecutive year, a feat not accomplished since 2008-2009. With an eye on defending their championship title, the Celtics are gearing up for their first-round matchup against the winner of Tuesday’s AtlantaOrlando play-in game.

Head coach Joe Mazzulla remains tight-lipped about playing time for the starters in the upcoming regular-season finale against the Charlotte Hornets, hinting that they may rest some key players. ‘We have to make sure we’re ready for the playoffs and that means making smart decisions now,’ Mazzulla said during a press conference. The Celtics are in better health this season compared to their previous campaign, bolstered by Kristaps Porzingis’s recovery and Jaylen Brown’s recent improvements.

Brown had faced a series of knee issues throughout the season but is expected to be fit for Game 1 next weekend. President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens has maintained the core roster while enhancing the team’s depth, resulting in improved performance. ‘We’ve seen guys step up in critical moments,’ Mazzulla said. ‘Whether it’s scoring or defense, the bench has been pivotal.’

Despite experiencing some challenges, including injuries to key players early on and a brief midseason slump, the Celtics have rallied. The team boasts the best road record in franchise history, achieving an impressive 33-8 record. ‘It’s about working together and knowing our roles,’ said forward Jayson Tatum, who leads the team with an average of 27 points per game. ‘This team has a special chemistry, and we need that as we head into the playoffs.’

Looking back, the Celtics faced adversity, including a tough loss to the Memphis Grizzlies where Dillon Brooks scored a franchise-high 10 three-pointers. However, they have regained focus, going 28-6 in the past 34 games. Mazzulla has stressed the importance of not taking any steps for granted, ensuring that his team stays sharp and avoids complacency.

The Celtics have also taken calculated measures to prepare for the postseason by managing player rest effectively. With numerous players contributing throughout the season, Mazzulla has been able to elevate two-way players for crucial minutes. As playoff intensity looms, the Celtics aim to keep their momentum going into the postseason.

‘We’ve had our ups and downs, but the key is that we learned from those moments,’ Brown said. ‘Right now we’re feeling good, and we’re excited about what lies ahead.’ With the first playoff game scheduled for April 19, the Celtics look to continue their journey towards a repeat championship.
