Celtics Gear Up for Thanksgiving Showdown Against Red-Hot Pistons
BOSTON, Mass. — The Boston Celtics face a challenging matchup against the Detroit Pistons at TD Garden on Wednesday evening.
The Celtics, who recently improved their record to 9-8 after winning four of their last five games, are now looking to extend their success despite injuries. Jayson Tatum will miss the game as he continues his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon sustained during last year’s playoffs. “He’s day-to-day, and we’re keeping our hopes high for a potential return soon,” Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said.
Meanwhile, Neemias Queta, who has started all 17 games this season, will also be sidelined due to a left ankle sprain he suffered during a victory against the Orlando Magic. Queta has been a key player for the Celtics, averaging 9.3 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game.
On the other hand, the Pistons enter the matchup riding a 13-game winning streak, tied for the longest in their franchise history. They have not lost a game since October 27, achieving a stellar 15-2 record so far this season. Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren have been standout players for Detroit. Cunningham, an emerging star, is averaging 20.3 points and 6.5 assists per game. “We’ve been playing well as a team, and we want to keep this momentum going into Boston,” Cunningham commented.
The Celtics and Pistons faced each other earlier this season, with the Pistons emerging victorious in their last matchup on October 26. The Celtics are hoping to capture a win against a very competitive Detroit squad. With significant absences, players like Jaylen Brown, who scored 35 points in recent games, will need to step up. “We’re working hard, and we believe in each other,” Brown expressed.
Boston fans will be eagerly watching as the Celtics strive for a win to help boost their playoff chances while looking forward to Tatum’s eventual return. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. ET, and fans can catch the action on ESPN.
