Central Coast Mariners‘ forward Angel Torres has been suspended from playing in the A-League Men following charges of sexual assault.

The 24-year-old Torres was apprehended at a residence in Terrigal on Monday regarding an alleged incident of sexual assault on March 24.

According to NSW Police, Torres was taken into custody and charged with two counts of common assault, intimidation, and aggravated sexual intercourse without consent. He is scheduled to appear in court in Gosford on May 6.

Joining the Central Coast Mariners at the onset of the A-League Men season, Torres has successfully scored 13 goals in 23 matches.

Football Australia promptly instituted a no-fault suspension for Torres given the serious nature of the charges. This precautionary measure prohibits him from participating in any football and club-related activities.

It is vital to note that Football Australia’s imposition of this interim suspension does not imply any presumption of guilt or fault. The charges against Torres are subject to determination by the courts of New South Wales.
