César Montes Prepares for Gold Cup with Strong Leadership

Mexico City, Mexico – César “Cachorro” Montes spoke confidently before the start of the Gold Cup. The defender, now serving as the team’s captain, emphasized the significance of the tournament for the national team.
Montes acknowledged the team’s strong position, stating, “History marks us as favorites. We must honor what we achieved in the last Gold Cup and the Nations League. We aim to repeat that success. It serves as an important preparation path for the World Cup.”
As he dons the captain’s armband for the national squad, Montes reflected on its importance. He remarked, “It’s an enormous responsibility to wear this armband. My first time as captain was in Monterrey, and at the club level it’s a huge task, but at the national level, it multiplies. I strive to surround myself with strong leaders, and I’ve learned a lot from Héctor Moreno.”
Regarding Mexico’s opening match against the Dominican Republic, Montes was realistic and focused. He underscored the need to show respect for their opponents by maintaining concentration. “Respecting the opponent means being focused and ready. It will be a challenging match. We expect them to defend strongly, but we have the tools to start off right,” he concluded.
