Cesc Fàbregas Comments on Real Madrid’s Interest in Nico Paz

Como, Italy — Cesc Fàbregas is monitoring Real Madrid’s increasing interest in midfielder Nico Paz. Como is close to securing a top 10 finish in their first Serie A season in 21 years, largely due to Fàbregas’s effective leadership as a rookie head coach.
Under Fàbregas, Paz, 20, has thrived, transforming from a promising talent to a player attracting attention from his former club. Fàbregas expressed his intent to retain the Argentine midfielder heading into next season. “We don’t know anything. He’s our player and for now he’s staying with us,” he stated during a pre-match press conference ahead of Como’s upcoming game against Inter.
Fàbregas emphasized the importance of playing time for Paz as he looks to secure a spot on the Argentine national team for the 2026 World Cup. “I don’t know if he’s ready for Real Madrid yet,” he added, highlighting the excellent relationship between Como and the Spanish club as they explore player options.
Since joining Como in August of 2024, Paz has made 34 appearances across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing nine assists. He began the season as a substitute but soon became a starter, playing in 29 of his last 32 matches. “If [Real Madrid] need us, we’re here, but for now they haven’t told us anything,” Fàbregas said.
Paz signed a four-year contract with Como after limited opportunities at Real Madrid, where he made only eight first-team appearances in three years. His standout performances for Real Madrid Castilla led Como to secure him for €6 million ($6.8 million), which includes a buy-back clause allowing Real Madrid to reclaim him by 2027.
No official approach has been made by Real Madrid presently, yet they reportedly have an interest, particularly due to Jude Bellingham‘s shoulder injury. Fàbregas’s guidance is vital for Paz’s development as he navigates his burgeoning career.
