Cfmeu Official Resigns Amid Corruption Claims

In a surprising move, Michael Greenfield, the assistant secretary of the NSW CFMEU, has decided to resign from his position. This resignation comes in the wake of serious corruption allegations that have been hanging over him and his family.

Premier Chris Minns had publicly called for both Michael and his father, Darren Greenfield, the state secretary of the union, to step down. Michael announced his resignation effective immediately, citing excessive media scrutiny and pressure on his family as the primary reasons for his decision.

In his statement, Michael emphasized his commitment to fighting the bribery charges he has been facing since 2021, asserting his innocence throughout the ordeal. He expressed concern over what he termed ‘sensationalized media reporting’ that he believes has unfairly influenced public perception.

The scrutiny of the Greenfield family intensified recently after media outlets reported on a police investigation, which involved video evidence allegedly showing cash being exchanged in their Sydney office. This troubling revelation added fuel to the fire, as attention on the union and its leadership grew.

While Michael Greenfield has stepped down, his father, Darren, remains in control of the union. Darren has reassured union members that it’s “business as usual” despite the ongoing turmoil surrounding their leadership.
