Champions League Draw Event Nyon February 2025

NYON, Switzerland — The draw for the UEFA Champions League knockout stage is set to take place today at noon CET, determining the matchups for the last 16 teams remaining in the prestigious tournament.

FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, and Real Madrid represent Spain, bringing a formidable presence to the knockout rounds. However, the draw could lead to a clash between Madrid and Atlético, as there is a 50% chance of the two rivals facing each other in the round of 16. This potential derby would undoubtedly fuel high emotional stakes and tension, mirroring their recent encounters.

Before the draw, one certainty remains: Real Madrid will either find themselves playing at the Metropolitano Stadium against Atlético or facing Bayer Leverkusen, led by manager Xabi Alonso. Alonso is considered a potential future coach for Madrid, adding an extra layer of intrigue should they meet.

For Atlético, the stakes are similarly high. In addition to a potential Madrid derby, they could also face Bayern Munich, one of Europe’s traditional powerhouses. While Bayern has not been in peak form lately, they are always a formidable challenge in European competitions. Atlético’s Diego Simeone knows that their return leg will be at the Metropolitano, raising the stakes even higher.

FC Barcelona will look to avoid a difficult matchup with Paris Saint-Germain after the French club’s dominant performance against Brest in their previous playoff, where they won 10-0 on aggregate. Last season, PSG eliminated Barcelona when Kylian Mbappé was still part of the squad, and despite the departure of the star player, they continue to be a strong force under coach Luis Enrique.

In contrast, a draw against Benfica would be viewed more favorably for Barcelona. Benfica struggled to advance past AS Monaco in the previous round and faced a daunting attack from Barcelona earlier in the season, which ended in a thrilling 5-4 match.

The upcoming matches in the knockout stage are scheduled for March 4 and 5 for the first legs and March 11 and 12 for the return legs. This draw will outline the entire journey to the final match in Munich, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting continuation of the tournament.
