Championship Football Match At Turf Moor

BURNLEY, England — The Championship resumes Friday night with a high-stakes clash between Burnley and Sunderland, as the race for promotion intensifies. Just three points separate the top four teams, with Leeds United leading the pack, followed closely by Burnley, Sheffield United, and Sunderland.

Burnley, managed by Scott Parker, boasts the best defensive record in EFL history, conceding only nine goals in 26 games. Sunderland, meanwhile, could debut new signing Enzo Le Fee, a French midfielder on loan from Roma. “Enzo is versatile and has really good quality,” said Sunderland head coach Regis Le Bris. “He can adapt himself in different positions.”

Attention shifts to the bottom of the table on Saturday, where Cardiff City host Swansea in the south Wales derby. Cardiff recently climbed out of the relegation zone, but manager Omer Riza acknowledged the need for improvement. “It’s frustrating, but we are out of the bottom three for now,” he said.

Elsewhere, Millwall face Hull City, while Plymouth Argyle, rooted at the bottom, host QPR. Plymouth manager Ian Foster praised the Home Park atmosphere after a recent draw. “It’s like a 12th man,” he said. “This will give us the boost we need.”

Leeds United, the division’s best home team, host Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday. Leeds have lost only once at Elland Road this season, but Wednesday’s strong away form makes them a potential threat. A win for Wednesday could solidify their playoff ambitions.

In League One, Wrexham missed a chance to go top after a draw with Shrewsbury. They trail Wycombe Wanderers on goal difference, with Birmingham City leading the pack. Huddersfield Town, bolstered by new signings, aim to join the promotion race with a trip to Blackpool.

League Two leaders Walsall face MK Dons, seeking to extend their 12-point advantage. At the bottom, Carlisle United host Bradford City, hoping to end a poor run of form.
