Jaromir Jagr Penguins Emmy Presentation

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — Pittsburgh Pirates prospect Bubba Chandler faced challenges in his recent outings at Triple-A Indianapolis, raising doubts about a potential promotion to the major league club. Meanwhile, hockey legend Jaromir Jagr received an Emmy for his work during his jersey retirement ceremony held in February 2024.

During a nine-game homestand, excitement for Chandler, the Pirates’ top prospect, peaked as he achieved a 2.03 ERA by the end of May. However, June has been less favorable for the 22-year-old righty. On June 5, against the Memphis Redbirds, Chandler pitched only two innings, allowing three runs. His struggles worsened in his latest game on June 11 against the St. Paul Saints, where he exited after issuing four walks in the first inning.

Chandler’s ERA for June ballooned to 13.50, dropping his overall record to 2-1, with a 2.63 ERA, 70 strikeouts, and 26 walks through 51⅓ innings. Despite opposing batters hitting .190 against him and a WHIP of 1.19, his command has come into question, particularly with five starts featuring three or more walks. Momentum for his promotion seems to have stalled for now.

On Thursday, Jagr was honored in Pittsburgh, receiving an Emmy for his involvement as a producer in the Penguins’ video project celebrating his jersey retirement. The emotional ceremony took place at PPG Paints Arena on February 18, 2024, where Jagr’s No. 68 was retired amidst cheers from fans and teammates. Jagr, now 53, expressed gratitude for the recognition, adding to his illustrious career that includes two Stanley Cup titles and 13 All-Star selections.

Lastly, in basketball, Pacers’ guard TJ McConnell played a pivotal role, contributing to Indiana‘s 116-107 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. McConnell’s ten points, five assists, and five steals helped gain a 2-1 series lead. His consistent hustle and commitment on the court have drawn appreciation from teammates and fans alike.

The Pirates, who finished their homestand with a 6-3 record, are gearing up for a series against the Chicago Cubs, having shown resilience after a series loss to Houston.
