Branson Taylor Nfl Draft

PITTSBURGH — The Los Angeles Chargers selected offensive lineman Branson Taylor from the University of Pittsburgh in the sixth round, with the 199th overall pick, during the 2025 NFL Draft on Saturday.

Taylor, measuring 6 feet 6 inches and weighing 315 pounds, was a standout player for the Panthers. Dane Brugler of The Athletic noted that while Taylor has promising skills, he needs to refine certain aspects of his game to become a more effective player. Many teams project that he may excel as a guard in the NFL, adding depth to the Chargers’ offensive line.

In his college career, Taylor played 18 games at left tackle and 3 at right tackle, but he has the versatility to transition inside at the professional level. His addition to the Chargers could bolster the team’s tackle depth behind Rashawn Slater and Joe Alt while also providing support for interior linemen such as Trey Pipkins III, Bradley Bozeman, and Andre James.

Despite suffering a season-ending injury last year, Taylor’s performance prior to the setback helped lead Pitt to a strong start in the 2024-25 college football season. He registered 21 starts across 45 games in college and was a team captain in 2024. Taylor’s leadership and experience on the field contribute to his appeal for prospective NFL teams.

After his injury, Taylor remained a hot topic in the draft conversation, highlighting his potential and resilience as a player. He is eager to prove himself in the NFL, reflecting on his journey and the support of his mother, Heather, who attended every game during his college career.

“I owe everything to her,” Taylor told Pittsburgh Sports Now. “This weekend will be a special time for both of us.” With the NFL Draft now completed, Taylor is ready to transition to the professional level, where he aims to bring the same work ethic that characterized his collegiate career.

As Taylor moves forward, he carries the memory of his late father, Brian, who passed away when Taylor was four years old. “I think about him every day and he’ll always be with me,” Taylor said.
