Chargers’ Will Dissly Poised for Key Role in Wild Card Game
Los Angeles Chargers tight end Will Dissly is expected to play a pivotal role in Saturday’s Wild Card matchup against the Houston Texans. With key offensive players potentially sidelined due to injuries, Dissly could emerge as a primary safety valve for quarterback Justin Herbert.
Dissly, who scored two touchdowns during the regular season, has seen an uptick in targets since Week 6, averaging five per game. His role could expand further if wide receivers Keenan Allen (ankle) and Mike Williams (thigh/illness) are limited or unavailable. Rookie wideout Quentin Johnston will likely draw significant defensive attention, leaving Dissly as a reliable second option in the passing game.
“Will has been a consistent presence for us all season,” said Chargers head coach Brandon Staley. “His ability to make tough catches in traffic and his understanding of the offense make him a valuable asset, especially in critical situations.”
The Chargers’ offense has struggled with injuries throughout the season, but Dissly’s steady performance has provided a silver lining. His red-zone presence could be crucial against a Texans defense that has allowed the seventh-most fantasy points to tight ends this season.
As the Chargers prepare for their first playoff appearance since 2018, Dissly’s role could be a deciding factor in their quest for a postseason victory. The game is scheduled for 8:15 p.m. ET on Saturday at NRG Stadium in Houston.
