Charli XCX, the acclaimed singer-songwriter known for her hit album “Brat,” is set to broaden her horizons by venturing further into the world of acting. The artist will be a guest star in Benito Skinner’s new comedy series “Overcompensating,” which will air on Prime Video. This announcement follows Charli XCX’s involvement in the series as both an executive producer and a contributor to its soundtrack.

“Overcompensating” is described as a comedic exploration of college life, centering around Benny, portrayed by Skinner, a closeted former football player who grapples with his identity while balancing friendships and collegiate chaos. Benny’s journey involves forming a bond with Carmen, played by Wally Baram, and navigating the complexities of youth with the help of his older sister, portrayed by Mary Beth Barone, and her boyfriend, played by Adam DiMarco.

The cast of “Overcompensating” is rounded out by actors including Mary Beth Barone, Adam DiMarco, and Rish Shah as regulars, alongside recurring appearances by Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, and others. Skinner’s creative journey began with social media fame and has now evolved into a promising acting and production career, with “Overcompensating” being produced by A24 and Strong Baby Productions.

Charli XCX’s participation in “Overcompensating” adds to her growing list of acting credits. She is set to appear in three upcoming films, including the Gregg Araki thriller “I Want Your Sex,” featuring Olivia Wilde and Cooper Hoffman, Daniel Goldhaber’s remake of “Faces of Death,” and a graphic novel adaptation “100 Nights of Hero,” directed by Julia Jackman.

Benito Skinner, who earned recognition under the alias Benny Drama, confirmed the completion of filming for the first season of “Overcompensating” on his Instagram. “Oh, and if you thought @charli_xcx was only doing the music…” he hinted, further exciting fans about Charli XCX’s dual role in the project.
