Charlotte Fc Vs Atlanta United Match Preview

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte FC is set to face off against rival Atlanta United FC in their highly anticipated 2025 home opener at Bank of America Stadium this Saturday, March 1. The match, designated as the MLS Match of the Week, promises an electric atmosphere as fans gather for the 2 p.m. ET kickoff.

After securing a valuable point in their season opener against the Seattle Sounders with a 2-2 draw, Charlotte is eager to convert that momentum into a win. Head Coach Dean Smith emphasized the need for his squad to elevate their work rate ahead of this crucial matchup.

“We’ve done a review on the game; the opposition ran 5,000 kilometers more than us. That’s a stat that I said to the team is damning on us,” said Smith. “We have to be better, but they know that and they can fix it because it was one of our strengths last season.”

The Crown aims to avenge their most recent defeat to Atlanta, which ended with a 1-0 scoreline on August 31, 2024. This season, Charlotte also welcomes the debut of Premier League star Wilfried Zaha, heightening fan expectations for the game.

“I’m not even thinking about or concentrating on the result because that can happen; it’s the performance. The performance levels have to be right,” Smith noted, stressing the importance of their on-field execution.

Atlanta United is riding high after their opening weekend victory against CF Montreal, where they prevailed 3-2. New head coach Ronny Deila has brought renewed energy to the squad, and center-back Stian Gregersen acknowledged the positive changes. “The biggest difference from last year is we have a more competitive team now, in our whole squad,” he said.

Fans can arrive early for various pre-match festivities, including the exclusive chance to earn a limited-edition CLTFC snapback hat presented by Ally for the first attendees. The pre-match party begins at 11:30 a.m. at Legends Row, featuring exciting activities such as the Ally Racing Open Road Sweepstakes and live music.

Charlotte FC’s history against Atlanta showcases their competitive spirit, with Charlotte holding a slight edge in their previous encounters. They have won three of their six all-time meetings, indicating a fierce rivalry that is anticipated to flair up once again.

The matchday experience will also feature enhanced services, including the RFID technology utilized at the Team Store for expedited shopping during games and sensory kits available for guests through a partnership with KultureCity.
