Chase Dollander Set to Face Dodgers for First Time

Denver, Colorado — The Colorado Rockies‘ rookie Chase Dollander prepares to face the Los Angeles Dodgers for the first time on Wednesday night. Coming off a strong performance, Dollander hopes to showcase his talent at Coors Field, even as he grapples with a challenging season.
Dollander, who was drafted in the first round in 2023, has faced a steep learning curve in the majors. After being promoted from Double-A and Triple-A, he has only pitched four innings in the minors this season before getting called up.
Although Dollander’s overall numbers this year have been less than stellar, he enters this game after two quality starts against the Braves and Nationals. However, both of those outings were away games, and the Rockies did not win either, scoring just four runs across both matches.
Tonight, Dollander faces Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, which presents a significant challenge. This will also be the rookie’s first matchup against superstar Shohei Ohtani.
Yamamoto has had limited experience at Coors Field. In his last outing there in 2024, he pitched five innings of two-run baseball in a decisive Dodgers win. The Rockies will need to find ways to get their bats going, especially against pitchers of this caliber.
In their latest matchup, two-thirds of the Dodgers lineup had multiple hits, including Mookie Betts and Teoscar Hernández, who had struggled recently. Dollander will need to find his footing against a powerful Dodgers offense to help turn around the Rockies’ dismal campaign.
