Chase Dollander Set for Major League Debut Against Athletics

DENVER, Colo. — Chase Dollander, the Colorado Rockies‘ top prospect, is poised to make his major league debut Sunday against the Oakland Athletics at Coors Field. The 23-year-old right-hander is eager to take the mound after a successful minor league stint, demonstrating remarkable poise and maturity, according to team officials.
“I think, mentally, I’m 100% ready,” Dollander said in a pre-game interview at Coors Field Saturday. “I’ve been preparing for this moment, and I’m ready to go out there and just have fun.” Dollander’s confidence comes from a strong season, during which he posted a 2.59 ERA in 23 starts across various minor league levels, including a recent Triple-A appearance where he allowed just one run over four innings.
Rockies manager Bud Black praised Dollander’s readiness to pitch at the major league level. “When you make this kind of decision, there are several factors that go into it,” Black noted. “Chase’s maturity was apparent in the minor leagues, and it was apparent when we drafted him. It became clear to us that this guy was on his way to being a major league pitcher.”
Dollander, who was the 2023 No. 9 overall pick from the University of Tennessee, will have a cheering section at his debut. His mother, Sandra, stepfather David Wall, girlfriend Caroline Simpson, and friend Bryce Atchinson will be in attendance. Rockies Hall of Famer Todd Helton, also a Tennessee alum, postponed his departure to witness Dollander’s first game. “It’s something pretty special. I can’t wait to see him and thank him,” Dollander expressed regarding Helton’s support.
Helton acknowledged Dollander’s potential, stating, “What he’s done in the minor leagues is impressive. To come in and dominate so quickly says a lot. He has a bit of attitude, and we need people like that.”
As Dollander prepares to face the pressures of a big league start, he remains focused on controlling what he can. “You have to realize that things are going to happen, realize what’s happening, and be able to calm yourself down. That’s one thing I’m really good at,” he said. Fans at Coors Field can expect an exciting match-up as Dollander takes the next step in his professional career.
