Chelsea Players Disappoint Fans Upon Arrival in Warsaw

WARSAW, Poland — Chelsea Football Club’s recent visit to Warsaw has left many fans disappointed after the players largely ignored enthusiastic supporters waiting outside their hotel. The English team arrived on April 10, 2025, for a UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final against Legia Warsaw, sparking significant interest among local fans and media.
Fans eagerly gathered outside the hotel on Krakowskie Przedmieście, hoping to catch a glimpse of their favorite players. They arrived early in the afternoon, but the Chelsea bus did not pull up until around 8:25 PM local time. Despite the chants and cheers from fans, most Chelsea players appeared indifferent. Only goalkeeper Robert Sanchez acknowledged the crowd, waving as he walked inside.
According to TVP Sport, the interest in the upcoming match has been monumental, with 420 journalists accredited to cover the event—marking the third-highest media turnout in the club’s history, surpassed only by matches against Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund.
Before departing for Warsaw, Chelsea players participated in a light-hearted quiz regarding the distance from London to Warsaw. The correct distance is approximately 900 miles (1,450 kilometers), but many players struggled with the geography. Jadon Sancho was closest, estimating it at 700 miles (about 1,125 kilometers), while Moises Caicedo overestimated it at only 20 miles (32 kilometers). Forward Kiernan Drewsbery Hall humorously stated that London was 10,000 miles (16,100 kilometers) away, and Reece James estimated 4,000 miles (6,440 kilometers). Malo Gusto also miscalculated the distance at 2,000 miles (3,220 kilometers).
The high-profile match is set to take place on April 10 at 6:45 PM local time at the Stadion Wojska Polskiego. A return fixture is scheduled for the following Thursday in London. With the excitement building, fans and media will be watching closely to see if Chelsea can deliver on the pitch after a less-than-stellar welcome in Poland.
