London, England – Chelsea Football Club has officially signed young midfielder Dario Essugo from Sporting CP on a long-term contract. The deal, confirmed today, involves a transfer fee of €22.3 million for the 20-year-old player.
Essugo will join his new teammates as they prepare for their trip to the United States later this month for the Club World Cup. His contract at Stamford Bridge runs until June 2033.
The young talent is set to arrive in London alongside Geovany Quena from Sporting, who will join Chelsea in a separate deal valued at up to €52.1 million next summer, after spending another year on loan with his current club.
Chelsea has not yet announced Essugo’s shirt number. He is expected to strengthen the club’s midfield, joining players like Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez, Romeo Lavia, and others, including returning loanees Lesley Ugochukwu and Carney Chukwuemeka.
In addition to Essugo’s arrival, Chelsea is also finalizing a £30 million transfer for Ipswich Town forward Liam Delap, who has completed his medical examination.
Essugo has a noteworthy background, having spent the previous season on loan at La Liga‘s Las Palmas, where he made 27 appearances. He made his senior debut for Sporting at just 16 years old, breaking records previously held by football legends.
On the international stage, Essugo has played for Portugal in various age groups and is currently a member of the Under-21 national team.
Chelsea aims to enhance its squad further as they prepare for a competitive season in both the Premier League and Champions League, while some players, including Christopher Nkunku and Benoit Badiashile, may leave the club in the coming days.
This signing marks another strategic move by Chelsea as they look to build a strong team for the future.
