Chicago Cubs Bullpen Pitchers 2025 Mlb Season

CHICAGO, Ill. — The Chicago Cubs are actively seeking to bolster their bullpen ahead of the 2025 Major League Baseball season, targeting high-profile relievers Ryan Pressly and Carlos Estévez, according to recent reports.

The Cubs, who missed out on signing left-handed reliever Tanner Scott, are now focusing on acquiring Pressly, a right-handed pitcher currently with the Houston Astros. Despite Pressly’s no-trade clause, sources indicate that the Cubs have expressed strong interest. Jon Heyman, a prominent MLB journalist, reported that Pressly has informed the Astros he is hesitant to accept a trade to teams in the East or West divisions but has not ruled out a move to Chicago.

In addition to Pressly, the Cubs are reportedly eyeing Carlos Estévez, a Dominican right-handed closer who remains one of the top free agents available. Jon Paul Morosi of MLB Network confirmed Chicago’s interest in Estévez, noting that the Toronto Blue Jays are also in the mix. Estévez, 32, has recorded 57 saves since the start of the 2023 season, making him an attractive option for teams seeking experienced bullpen arms.

While the Cubs have seen promise in young right-hander Porter Hodge, who excelled as a closer late in the 2024 season, the team is prioritizing veteran experience. Estévez’s track record could provide stability in high-pressure situations.

The Athletic also reported that the Cubs are exploring a wide range of bullpen options, including David Robertson, Kenley Jansen, Phil Maton, Ryne Stanek, and Brooks Raley. These moves underscore the team’s commitment to strengthening its pitching staff as it prepares for a competitive 2025 season.

“The Cubs are leaving no stone unturned in their quest to build a championship-caliber bullpen,” said an anonymous MLB insider. “They know that having reliable arms in the late innings can make or break a season.”

As the offseason progresses, the Cubs’ front office remains focused on securing the right pieces to complement their roster. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see how these potential acquisitions could shape the team’s fortunes in the upcoming season.
