Chicago Cubs’ Pete Crow-Armstrong Shines Amid Early Season Challenges

Chicago, IL – As the Chicago Cubs gear up for their 150th major-league season, a new focal point has emerged: outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong‘s ever-changing hairstyle. Cubs second baseman Nico Hoerner humorously noted, “It could be different tomorrow,” during spring training in Arizona.
Fast forward two months, and the Cubs have surged to the top of the National League Central, boasting a 16-10 record. Wrigley Field has buzzed with playoff energy as fans chant “P-C-A! P-C-A!” for Crow-Armstrong, a 23-year-old center fielder who is rapidly becoming a breakout star.
Hoerner praised Crow-Armstrong’s play style, saying, “He plays the game with confidence and swagger. That energy he brings us is what every team needs.” His commitment to the game and his teammates reflects a dedication that extends beyond personal success.
Crow-Armstrong’s early struggles this season were met with support from his teammates and coaches, particularly manager Craig Counsell, who previously cultivated young talent during his tenure with the Milwaukee Brewers. Counsell emphasized the importance of focusing on fundamentals while Crow-Armstrong experienced challenges with his batting average, which dipped below .200 in mid-April.
“I have a lot of help here,” Crow-Armstrong acknowledged, referring to the guidance from experienced players and hitting coaches. “That definitely gives you a little extra bit of conviction to go out there and try to produce.”
His efforts have paid off, as Crow-Armstrong hit his first home run of the season during a game at Dodger Stadium, marking a significant turning point. Since then, he has continued to impress, with production that is 48 percent above the major-league average as measured by OPS+.
According to historic stats, Crow-Armstrong is the first player to achieve five home runs, ten stolen bases, and fifteen extra-base hits before the end of April. He attributes his success to maintaining a consistent approach while soaking in the vast experience from his teammates.
Though the pressure of playing in the majors can be intense, Crow-Armstrong continues to remain focused on his development and continual improvement in every game. “I’ve just found a way to continue to ask a lot of myself, while also giving myself a little more grace,” he said.
As he navigates the challenges of an extensive MLB season, the Cubs organization is committed to supporting their young star, recognizing the vital importance of his development both on and off the field.
