Chicago White Sox Home Opener 2025 Food And Fans

CHICAGO — The Chicago White Sox are set to open their 2025 MLB season at Rate Field on March 27, facing off against the Los Angeles Angels. As fans stream into the stadium, they will not only witness the game but also experience a variety of new food options and a fresh atmosphere following a tumultuous previous season.

The home opener comes after the White Sox recorded a dismal 41-121 record in 2024, marking the worst winning percentage in modern MLB history. However, the organization is looking to rebound with new initiatives and a renewed sense of energy. Former Chicago Bulls player Derrick Rose will throw out the ceremonial first pitch, and the team hopes this will help rekindle fan interest.

“It’s a clean slate,” said Colin McGauley, White Sox PR manager. “You’ve got a new name, you’ve got a lot of new faces and young guys. Just a lot of new energy in the clubhouse.”

The first 20,000 fans entering Rate Field will receive a plush 125th anniversary blanket presented by BMO. Gates to the stadium will open two hours prior to the game, while parking lots will open three hours ahead of first pitch to accommodate the expected increased crowd sizes.

“Larger than normal crowds are expected for White Sox Opening Day. Fans are encouraged to arrive early and avoid the rush,” according to the team’s release.

Parking options are available, with prepaid passes accepted at various lots around the stadium. Fans are also encouraged to use public transportation to avoid traffic. The CTA Red and Green lines have stops near the stadium, and a Metra station is located nearby as well.

The home opener will mark the debut of an extensive new food lineup, with over two dozen new options from the team’s concession partners, Delaware North and Levy Restaurants. Featured offerings include Korean Dogs, bubble waffles, and a new version of the popular Campfire Milkshake made with cake.

“We do try to ‘wow’ people every time they come in the park, because we know we can’t control what happens between the lines, but we’re trying to control the experience,” said Brooks Boyer, chief revenue and marketing officer for the White Sox.

Among the new offerings is a lineup of deli sandwiches including the “Chi-Talian” and “All-Pro,” along with an eclectic mix of desserts like the “Celebration Cake Shake” which commemorates the team’s 125 years. Traditional favorites will also be available, such as garlic fries and Chicago-style hot dogs.

Notably, the venue has transitioned to a completely cashless system. All tickets are mobile, and fans are reminded to download their tickets in advance via the MLB Ballpark or Ticketmaster app.

The White Sox face an uphill battle this season after a massive roster overhaul, including the addition of new manager Mike Venable, who takes charge after the departure of Pedro Grifol. Key players like Andrew Vaughn, Luis Robert, and Andrew Benintendi are expected to lead the team through what is touted as another rebuilding year.

As the first pitch nears, excitement builds not just for the game but for a fresh start, delectable foods, and the hope of better days ahead for the Chicago White Sox.
