Chicago White Sox Rookie Meidroth Lands on Injured List with Thumb Issue

BOSTON (AP) — The Chicago White Sox placed rookie infielder Chase Meidroth on the 10-day injured list due to right thumb inflammation on Monday, shortly before their game against the Boston Red Sox. To fill his vacant spot on the roster, Chicago recalled infielder Bobby Dalbec from Triple-A Charlotte.
Meidroth, 23, spoke to reporters in the clubhouse about the painful injury that he sustained while swinging. He shared his struggle to play through the discomfort. “I started feeling it again,” Meidroth explained. “I was kind of just playing through it for a week now. It kinda got to the point where the best thing moving forward was to just shut it down for a little bit.”
Bobby Dalbec, who re-joins the team, previously spent five seasons with the Red Sox organization. He was outrighted to the Triple-A affiliate in late September and opted for free agency before signing with the White Sox in January. This game marks a return for Dalbec to Fenway Park for Boston’s annual Patriots’ Day celebration.
In addition to Meidroth’s situation, the White Sox also announced that left-hander Martin Pérez was moved from the 15-day to the 60-day injured list due to inflammation in his pitching elbow. Pérez was initially placed on the injured list on Saturday.
