Chiefs’ Hollywood Brown Acquisition Faces Setback in Quest for Three-Peat
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs‘ pursuit of a historic third consecutive Super Bowl victory hit a snag with the injury of wide receiver Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, their key offseason acquisition. Brown, signed to a one-year, $7 million deal, was expected to bolster the Chiefs’ offense but missed the first 15 weeks of the season due to a shoulder injury sustained in the preseason.
The Chiefs, aiming to improve their offense after leading the league in dropped catches last year, targeted Brown for his speed and deep-threat capability. Before joining Kansas City, Brown had accumulated 313 receptions for 3,644 yards and 28 touchdowns over five seasons with the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals. In 2023, he recorded 51 catches for 574 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games.
Despite Brown’s absence, the Chiefs dominated the regular season with a 15-1 record, resting starters in Week 18. Their offense, while not elite, remained efficient, ranking in the top 10 according to Pro Football Network metrics. Brown’s return in Week 16 against the Cincinnati Bengals provided a spark, as he recorded 45 and 46 yards in his first two games back. His presence improved the Chiefs’ third-down efficiency, helping the team average 28 points per game over that stretch.
“Hollywood’s ability to stretch the field and create separation has been huge for us,” said quarterback Patrick Mahomes. “Even in limited action, he’s made a difference.”
As the Chiefs prepare for the playoffs, Brown’s role becomes increasingly critical. His ability to contribute in high-stakes games could determine whether Kansas City achieves its three-peat goal. “We know what he brings to the table,” said head coach Andy Reid. “He’s a game-changer, and we’re excited to have him back at full strength.”
The Chiefs face the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round, where Brown’s performance will be closely watched. With their defense already solidified, Kansas City hopes Brown’s return can elevate their offense to championship caliber once again.
