Kansas City Chiefs Football Players Re Signing

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs strengthened their roster this week by re-signing linebacker Cole Christiansen and long snapper James Winchester amid a bustling NFL free agency market. With the league’s new year just beginning, the Chiefs are solidifying their depth as they prepare for the upcoming season.

Christiansen, a former West Point cadet and two-time Super Bowl champion, has signed a one-year deal to stay with Kansas City, where he has played since 2022. According to Matt Derrick, a source expressed that Christiansen’s return reinforces the team’s commitment to maintain crucial special teams players. Over the past season, Christiansen participated in nine games, contributing significantly on special teams despite bouncing between the active roster and the practice squad.

In response to his signing, Christiansen noted, “I’m excited to continue my journey with the Chiefs. It’s a privilege to work alongside such talented teammates and coaches.” The terms of his new contract are not yet disclosed; however, sources indicate it likely includes a non-guaranteed minimum salary. His competition for an active roster spot remains intense as the offseason progresses.

Additionally, the Chiefs confirmed the return of long snapper James Winchester on a one-year deal worth $1.65 million. NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Winchester’s deal is fully guaranteed. Since joining the Chiefs in 2015, he has established himself as a vital part of the team’s special teams unit, with his tenure only surpassed by tight end Travis Kelce on the current roster.

“I’m grateful for the opportunity to keep playing in Kansas City. This team feels like home, and I’m looking forward to another season,” Winchester remarked upon the announcement.

Both re-signings come on the heels of the Chiefs making headlines earlier in the week by adding tackle Jaylon Moore and running back Elijah Mitchell to their roster during the NFL’s “legal tampering period.” With these strategic moves, Kansas City aims to enhance its performance ahead of the next season.

As the offseason continues, Chiefs fans can expect more updates on player acquisitions and contract signings. As illustrated by their recent activity, Kansas City is poised to make a significant impact in the upcoming NFL season.
